As you know, it is called ‘Heritage SnAps Photo Competition 2021’.

 

By raising awareness of State Heritage Places in South Australia (we now have 2,302 of them!) we will encourage the community to visit the places and take interest in our state’s heritage. We want to positively engage with individuals and the communities to inspire interest and participation in taking high quality photographs of State Heritage Places. The competition coincides with the release of our new Heritage Tourism Strategy for South Australia – ‘Growing our Heritage Future’.

 

There are 4 categories for people to enter photos:

 

  • Category 1 – Maritime Heritage coastal and riverine (includes Shipwrecks and Heritage listed lighthouses, jetties, obelisks, wharfs and boatsheds).
  • Category 2 – Heritage visits (featuring people enjoying our State Heritage Places).
  • Category 3 – Professional and Edited photos of State Heritage Places
  • Category 4 – Young talent (under 18) taking photos of State Heritage Places (encouraging school age kids to learn about our Heritage).
Heritage South Australia encourages all students to enter – either via Category 4 if under 18, or any other category if over 18. So please recommend this to any relatives or friends who are students.

The competition is open now and will close on 15 October 2021.

There will be an official event in December 2021 at Torrens Parade Ground in Adelaide to announce the winners.

The Minister for Environment and Water David Speirs MP has set a new course for conserving our state’s natural environment with the release of the Nature Conservation Directions Statement 2020 last month.

The new Nature Conservation Directions Statement 2020 sets a vision for all South Australians to conserve nature in a rapidly changing world.

It’s been developed using leading practice principles from international and national sources, with input from an internal Working Group comprising representatives of the Strategy, Partnerships, and Conservation and Threatened Species teams.

Importantly, the Nature Conservation Directions Statement 2020 provides focus for state and federal funding and assists in identifying species where recovery plans are required in the face of a changing climate.

It will be implemented through an action plan where priorities are addressed according to a strong evidence base.

The principles on which the Nature Conservation Directions Statement rely are also aligned to other significant initiatives, including:

  • the establishment of regional Landscape Boards and Green Adelaide
  • the development of the upcoming South Australian Climate Change Action Plan
  • the work of the Wildlife and Habitat Bushfire Recovery Taskforce
  • the development of a new South Australian Wellbeing Strategy.

The attached “Update on the South Australian Planning Reforms: Release of Draft Planning and Design Code – Phase 2 (Rural Areas) and Phase 3 (Urban Areas)” represents a major change in the SA planning system in 20 years and will impact on the future management of our national parks and the environment in general.

Your Board believes that all FOP Members and Member Groups should be made aware of the proposed changes and have the opportunity to attend the DEW/DPTI Information Session and Workshop to be held on the 4th November 2019 – 9.00am – 1.00 pm.

Update on the South Australian Planning Reforms: Release of Draft Planning and Design Code – Phase 2 (Rural Areas) and Phase 3 (Urban Areas)

Release of Draft Planning and Design Code – Phase 2 (Rural Areas) and Phase 3 (Urban Areas)” – Monday 4th November at the Office for Design + Architecture SA (ODASA), 26-28 Leigh Street, Adelaide

DEW and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) invite Presiding Members and Chairs, or delegate(s), to an information session/workshop on Phase 2 (rural areas) and Phase 3 (urban areas) of the Draft Planning and Design Code on the Monday 4th November at the Office for Design + Architecture SA (ODASA), 26-28 Leigh Street, Adelaide SA – doors open at 9am for a 9.30 start until 12.30pm, followed by lunch.

The information session will be facilitated by Nicole Halsey from URPS and presenters will include Allan Holmes from the State Planning Commission and Alison Collins from the DPTI.

The purpose of the information session/workshop is to:

  • provide information on Phase 2 (rural council areas with small towns and settlements areas) and Phase 3 (urban council areas and councils with regional towns and cities) of the Draft Planning and Design Code
  • workshop the Draft Code and identify and share common themes and learnings
  • provide clear guidance on how and when feedback should be provided and in what form
  • provide an opportunity for the [Board/Council/Committee] to discuss key issues with the Draft Code and network with the SPC, DPTI, DEW staff, and other boards, councils and committees supported by DEW.

Please also find attached a briefing providing an update on the Planning Reforms and the Draft Code should you wish to brief Board/Council/Committee members.

An overview of the proposed natural resources and environmental policies in the Draft Code, and further details on the information session, including the agenda, parking etc. will be provided in due course.
