How to get involved:

We could hold another how-to session, or probably better for the club organiser to have a bio blitz done over the weekend at a local revegetation site or similar or both

When? The CNC will be held between from  22 Oct – 24 Oct – you can participate for four minutes or four days!

The workshops

When:

Day one – 11:00 – 2:00pm AEST Wednesday 18 August 2021.

Day two – 11:00 – 2:00pm AEST Thursday 19 August 2021.

* Sessions are identical so please register for one session only.

Where:

Online Zoom workshop. A meeting link will be sent to registered attendees with an Outlook calendar invitation and reading materials.

How:

Register for one of the stage two workshops via Eventbrite. Registrations close one week prior to the event (Wednesday 11 August and Thursday 12 August 2021 respectively).

What:

These workshops will provide a national forum for you to further consider, critique, refine and co-design the draft National Established Weed Priorities (NEWP) framework to ensure that it meets the needs of your organisation. Workshops will be facilitated by the team at Wild Matters with support from the Environment and Invasives Committee’s Weeds Working Group, who will provide an overview of the feedback received through the first stage of workshops and the online survey undertaken in April/May 2021, and seek your input on the implementation of the draft NEWP Framework.

 

The workshop will seek detailed feedback on:

  • Governance models that will best support implementation of the NEWP framework
  • Implementation models for WoNS/WINS strategic plans, including national taskforce and coordinator models, integration with existing approaches, including examples of implementation models that have worked well
  • Defining key stakeholders for further engagement.

 

Background

The National Established Weed Priorities (NEWP) Framework was conceived in a 2020 report by Wild Matters that analysed the original Weeds of National Significance (WoNS) initiative and proposed a draft framework that builds on the successes and lessons learned from WoNS by moving beyond a single species approach to encompass a suite of National Established Weed Priorities:

 

  1. Weeds of National Significance (WoNS)
  2. Weed Issues of National Significance (WINS)
  3. National Established Weeds Action List (NEWAL).

 

In July 2021, Wild Matters were announced as the successful tenderers of an Australian Government project to progress the development of the NEWP framework and develop a plan for its implementation. In addition to facilitating these workshops, the Wild Matters team will be consulting broadly with community, industry and government stakeholders across Australia to ensure that the framework meets the needs of people and organisations involved in weed management. COVID Clean Training is now available to volunteers

The Department for Innovation and Skills is offering an opportunity for volunteers working in customer service/contact roles.

COVID clean training is nationally recognised training in infection prevention and control and designed for application across a number of volunteer roles including:

·      Customer service and lifestyle activities

·      Transport

·      Food preparation.

The accredited training covers:

·      Hand hygiene practices

·      Effective surface cleaning

·      Use of personal protective equipment

·      Disposal of contaminated waste

·      Hazard identification, control and reporting

·      Appropriate protocols and responses in the event of an incident

·      Knowledge of the basis of infection and transmission.

Upon completion of the training, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the accredited Infection Control Skill Set

Training duration: 1.5 days (Online and in-person delivery may be available. Discuss this with your chosen training provider.)

Course value: Approximately $500

Cost to volunteers or organisations: $15 per participant

Join passionate land carer Greg Donovan, who has more than 20 years’ experience in hands-on land management, to find out the best woody weed control methods, including

    👉 Drill and fill
    👉 Spot spray
    👉 Hand grub
    👉 Basal bark technique

Greg will demonstrate how to tackle woody weeds like Wild Olives (Olea europaea) and the thorny African Boxthorn (Lycium ferocissimum), which have a major impact on our native species and agricultural productivity.
