What will I experience?

The Australian giant cuttlefish is the largest of all cuttlefish species and can weigh up to 5kg. Each year between May and August thousands of cuttlefish congregate in the Cuttlefish Coast Sanctuary Zone of the Upper Spencer Gulf Marine Parknear Whyalla to mate and reproduce.

This spectacle is complete with an underwater light show with cuttlefish able to change colour, shape and texture to attract or ambush potential mates.

Good Afternoon All,

Last week the new 2021 parks awareness campaign was launched.

The Get the full picture campaign is about welcoming visitors and celebrating the many unique experiences found in our national parks.

A competition is now running and features a series of postcards that appear to be cut in half.

Entrants are challenged to hold up the postcard in the park landscape to complete the picture and share on Instagram, upload it to our website or post it in.

The competition will run through June.

Unfortunately DEW staff and their immediate families are not eligible to enter the competition, but can share postcards and NPWS experiences on Instagram and encourage friends to participate. The full terms and conditions of the competition can be found here.
